Poster award David Schmidt: IVIg therapy in children with ITP
NewsDavid Schmidt won a poster award at the 2017 Sanquin Science day. He investigated differences in the response to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy in children with newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).
By leveraging data and samples from a multicenter randomized controlled trial, David found that inter-individual variations in response to IVIG treatment were not explained by variations in immunoglobulin metabolism, or a number of genetic polymorphisms which influence it. These data are important to understand the working mechanism of IVIG and individualize the treatment of newly diagnosed ITP.
