New technique to identify regulation of tumor cell destruction by neutrophils
Poster prize for PhD student Panagiotta Bouti NewsPanagiota Bouti, PhD student at the Phagocyte Laboratory at the Department of Blood Cell Research under supervision of Hanke Matlung and Timo van den Berg, has been awarded the poster prize for her poster at the European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI) Congress in Barcelona.
At the ESCI she presented her work on the mechanism by which the innate checkpoint CD47-SIRPĪ± controls neutrophil and antibody-mediated cell death of cancer cells. For this purpose she made use of a screening method, called BioID. BioID employs a promiscuous biotin ligase coupled to a protein of interest that biotinylates proteins that get in close proximity.
By using this technique in combination with mass spectrometry, she hopes to identify proteins that regulate the CD47-SIRPĪ± signaling pathway restricting antibody-mediated tumor cell destruction by neutrophils. This work is supported by KWF, grant #10300.
