Branka Popovic wins price for the best flash presentation at Oncode meeting

On September 8, 2020 during the Annual meeting of the Oncode Institute in Rotterdam, Dr. Branka Popovic from the Wolkers lab won the price for the Best Flash Presentation. She presented her studies on RNA binding proteins that regulate the production of cytokines in human T cells. 

Branka studies when, how much, and for how long human T cells produce effector molecules such as cytokines. Effective production of these molecules is critical for the clearance of infections and tumors. She identified which RNA binding proteins can interact with cytokine RNAs, and she elucidated the molecular mechanisms these proteins employ to modulate the production of cytokines.

These findings elucidate fundamental aspects of T cell biology and may provide new leads for therapeutic approaches.
