SUPPLY

Many countries in Europe, including the Netherlands, depend for an important part on plasma collected outside of Europe for the production of plasma-derived medicinal products (or PDMPs). To sustain the long-term supply of PDMPs for patients in Europe, more plasma needs to be collected within Europe. Thus, the objective of the SUPPLY project is to increase plasma collection and strengthen the resilience of voluntary non-renumerated plasma collection programmes by non-profit blood establishments throughout the EU, while maintaining donor safety, to ensure optimal availability of PDMPs for patients.
Donor Studies is involved in 2 of SUPPLY's work packages:

WP2 – Recruitment and Retention
This work package aims to provide evidence-based recommendations and implementation tools towards best practices regarding (unpaid) plasma donor recruitment and retention. To this aim, collaborators in this work package perform desk research, surveys, and experiments related to incentives as well as more general communication strategies.

WP5 – Protecting donor health
The aim of this work package is to develop recommendations towards evidence-based plasma donor protection practices. To this end, WP5's collaborators work on (systematic) reviews of the literature and surveys of current donor health protection practices used by blood establishments within Europe and globally.
